The centre, among olive trees and the Mediterranean macchia, is situated on a hill sloping towards the sea, surrounded by on the one side the little harbour and then the ledge of “Capo Palinuro” and on the other side the long beach of “Saline”.
The ledge reaches into the sea with its grottoes (under and above the sea), famous for their strong colours, created by the sunlight reflecting in the sea and their bottoms full of corals.
The hiking trails near the sea or in the mountains of the Nationalpark of Cilento, offer incredible views as they are so various: the forest of Mount Gelbison and Mount Bulgheria – for trekking – the canyons of the river Mingardo – for riding – an infinity of natural beaches and bays on the way to the Infreschi Bay can be reached by boat leaving from the harbour of Palinuro.
Centols is the capital, S. Nicola with its Belvedere, Foria and San Severino with its medieval centre, are part of it.
